An incredibly unique houseplant, Gynura aurantiaca has green leaves covered in tiny, velvety, vibrant purple hairs, hence the name Velvet Plant. It also blooms odd-smelling thistle-like orange flowers making it an even more interesting plant. Despite being atypical, this purple passion plant is fairly easy to care and gets along well with most home environments.Ā
The most important part of caring for a Velvet Plant is watering. It enjoys moist soil but its delicate roots are prone to root rot so the key is to keep it moderately damp but not soggy. They should be placed in areas that receive bright but filtered sunlight. Getting enough sun is crucial to maintaining its brilliant purple colour.Ā
The velvet plant can mature very quickly, transforming from a shoot into a little bushy plant in a matter of few weeks.Ā Ā
Important to know: As plants are natural products, form, pattern and colour will vary.Ā
